2015-04-21: Walking day Seville – Guillena (22/22 km)

Up early. Breakfast at the hostel. Then through the streets of “Triana” and the suburb “Camas” northwards after first passing the “Guad-Al –Quivir”, or rather the channel as the old riverbed is closed. Continued through “Santiponce” with the old roman city “Itálica” under the feet. We were reminded that it had one of the biggest arenas for its days. Worth a visit but not today.
A few kilometers after “Santiponce” begins an infinitely long gravel roads through the fields. It ends with a left turn that follows a stream crosses a bridge and you are in “Guillena”. I was kidnapped directly by Pillar, the owner of this private albergue. She was out “fishing”. Good service.
Met a Dane. Let’s call him Hans. We had dinner together at an outdoor restaurant. A bit later came an Italian girl that Hans had met in Seville. She did not want to stop in “Guillena” but continue. I wonder what did happen It is not that short between “Guillena” and “Castilblanco”, Hans and I talked a lot. His wife had died a while ago in cancer if I remember correctly. Hans was in the middle of changing apartment and that resulted in that he had to be away for two months. He intended to spend those on Vía de la Plata, which was his third camino. He could not get back home until the middle of June.
I arranged some practicalities among other things a backup battery to my mobile (Sony) that ate battery charge. A full charge lasted only a day. Later I solved the problem by switching over to my old Nokia as “daily phone”. The battery o
f that lasted much longer
